Summer Drama will be alive and well this summer at the Spring Hill Arts Center as the SHAC School of Drama offers two youth theatre programs, Aesop’s Fables – Journey to the stage and Shakespeare? No Problem!
 
Aesop’s Fables – Journey To The Stage, will be for rising first graders through rising fourth graders. Children will take an Aesop Fable each week and act out their own version on stage as part of the class. Imagination will be spurred as children are acting out these classic fables and having to take the form of all the different characters.
 
Shakespeare? No Problem, will be for rising fifth graders and up. This course will take the words of William Shakespeare and bring them come to life. Often looked at as too difficult for young performers this class will break scenes down to the simplest of forms and make each young actor look like a pro.
 
The class is taught by Spring Hill Arts Center President Joe Leavitt. Leavitt is a veteran of the stage and has performed in professional theatres around the southeast.
 
“I wish that I had this type of training available to me when I was a young actor,” said Leavitt. “Just having the exposure to Shakespeare at this age is great and being able to get swept away in the imaginary world of the fables is great for the young ones. Not only will they have fun but hopefully they will learn some great moral lessons from the fables.”
 
Each class will run for 12 weeks beginning June 7th and will conclude in a showcase performance for friends and parents on the day of the last class. Classes meet each Saturday at the Old Spring Hill High School. Aesop’s Fable’s meets from 9-9:50 and Shakespeare meets from 10-10:50. Cost for the class is $30 per month or $10 per class.
